However it is not the first time that such international event is going to take place in Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in New Delhi. It previously hosted the ninth Asian games which was held in 1982. infact this stadium was especially designed for this purpose.
Very recently in 2004 the world half Marathon was organised here. The stadium was the venue for Junior Asian Athletics that took place in 1991.
This presitigous stadium of New Delhi is also the headquarter of Indian Olympic Association.
The Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium which was named after the first Prime Minister of India has an accommodation of 1,00,000 spectators. The stadium further can accommodate 1,30,000 concerts.
However there will be some renovation in the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium for the commonwealth games that will take place in New Delhi in the year 2010. The capacity of the stadium will be increased. At the same time the stadium will be equipped with all sorts of facilities and amenities keeping in mind the needs of the spectators.
