Table Tennis

The roots Table Tennis is associated with England where it was initially just played as a social hobby. It can be said to start towards the end of the eighteenth century. The early equipment used for playing Table tennis were dining-room tables and cork balls. The sport of Table tennis was earlier referred as gossima, flim-flam, or ping-pong. With the turn of the century, the game went through considerable change in England. Then the celluloid ball was introduced for playing Table tennis,while some also used pimpled rubber and wooden paddle.
The earliest history says that the sport which was then called indoor tennis. It was played in the early 1880s by British army officers in India and South Africa. As there were no infrastructure that time,so they usually used cigar boxes lids as paddles and wine bottles rounded corks as balls, While net was made with a row of books set up across in the middle of a table. They just played this game as hobby. The game is fast and demands swiftness. Only a skilled player can play this game. One needs to bounce the tennis ball on the table and hit it towards the opponent court.
Table tennis is one of the popular sports throughout the world. It is also one of the sports in 2010 Commonwealth Games. Soon this game which was just played for recreation lost some of charm and popularity, until several sports lovers in Europe revived it as "table tennis" during the 1920s. The International Table Tennis Federation (ITTF) came into existence in the year 1926. The game Table tennis soon spread to Japan and other Asian nations. During the 50s and 60s Japanese dominated the sport, however the Chinese soon joined the race. History says that China alone had dominated this sport during 60's and 70's. Soon during the 1980s Table Tennis became an Olympic event and other nations such as Sweden and South Korea have made a position for themselves in this game.
