Lawn Bowls

Lawn Bowls, also referred to as bowls, is a precision sport in which the player aims to roll asymmetrical balls closest to a white colored called the “jack”. Lawn bowls is usually an outdoor game on grass. It can also be played indoors on artificial surfaces. Bowls is associated with bocce and pétanque. This particular game is popularly played in the Commonwealth nations. The artificial surface in which lawn bowls are played are popularly referred to as “Bowling Green’. The bowling Green is constituted of a number of playing strips known as rinks. Lawn bowls constitutes one of the sporting events in the Commonwealth Games 2010.
Other than Lawn Bowls, the spots events like Archery, netball, tennis, badminton, rugby, Table tennis, squash, gymnastics, hockey, wrestling, shooting and weightlifting have been organized.
As far as the event of lawn bowls in the commonwealth games 2010 is concerned, this game is going to be held at the Jawaharlal Nehru stadium at New Delhi. Apart from this, New Delhi’s Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium will also serve as the venue for the other sports like athletics, weightlifting. The opening and closing ceremonies of the 2010 Commonwealth Games have also been arranged at the aforementioned stadium of New Delhi.
The Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium came into existence in the year 1982. It was established by the Government of India. In this particular stadium, about 100,000 spectators can seat together and watch the event of lawn bowls in the commonwealth Games 2010.
The system of scoring involved in the game of lawn bowls vary from tournament to tournament. As far as lawn bowls in the new Delhi Commonwealth games is concerned, the sets method of scoring will be followed in the said tournament. Each set will be consisted of seven ends and the sportsman with most number of shots at the end of a set will be declared the winner of a set. In case the score is tied, the set will be halved, and two more sets have to be played. If the score is one set each, three tie-breaker ends will be played for the determining the winner.
