1994 Commonwealth Games

August 18th to August 28th was an exciting time for sports lovers from all over the world, as the 1994 Commonwealth Games were held with much pomp and glory at Victoria, British Columbia, Canada. 2669 participants from 63 nations of the Commonwealth participated in the 1994 Commonwealth Games. This 15th Commonwealth Games was significant by South Africa's comeback following the apartheid era, after over 30 years since the country last competed in the Games. 1994 Commonwealth Games also witnessed Hong Kong's last appearance at the games before reverting to Chinese rule.
Ten categories of sports were conducted in the 1994 Commonwealth Games, including:

  • Australia maintained its top position from 1990 Commonwealth games, by winning 88 gold, 53 silver and 43 bronze medals
  • Canada won 41 gold, 43 silver and 49 bronze medals
  • England bagged 31 gold, 45 silver and 51 bronze medals
  • Nigeria won 11 gold, 13 silver and 13 bronze medals
  • Kenya won 7 gold, 4 silver and 8 bronze medals
  • India won 6 gold, 12 silver and 7 bronze medals
  • Scotland won 6 gold, 3 silver and 11 bronze medals
  • New Zealand bagged 5 gold, 16 silver and 21 bronze medals
  • Wales got 5 gold, 8 silver and 6 bronze medals
  • Northern Ireland bagged 5 gold, 2 silver and 3 bronze medals
  • Nauru got 3 gold medals
