1978 Commonwealth Games

The 1978 Commonwealth Games were held from August 3rd to August 12th in the year 1978 in the city of Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. It was the XI Games, which were the first to carry the present day name of the Commonwealth Games. Six years prior, Edmonton won the privilege of hosting the 1978 Commonwealth Games after their presented their vision to the Commonwealth Games Federation General Assembly. Forty-six nations sent 1,474 athletes along with 504 officials to the 1978 Commonwealth Games in Edmonton. For the very first time, the host nation Canada had topped the medal table during the XI Games.
The 1978 Commonwealth Games held in Edmonton, Canada was officially inaugurated by the Queen Elizabeth II.

Medals Won at 1978 Commonwealth Games
At the 1978 Commonwealth Games in Edmonton, Canada won the maximum number of medals with 45 Gold Medals, 31 Silver Medals and 33 Bronze Medals. England won a total of 87 medals, followed by Australia who won 84 medals. New Zealand won 20 medals, Kenya 18 medals, India 15 medals and Scotland won 14 medals.
There were a total of 1,474 athletes participating in 126 events in 11 sports. The closing ceremony of the 1978 Commonwealth Games was held on 12th August 1978.
