New Delhi, 2010 Commonwealth Games

The New Delhi, 2010 Commonwealth Games, will be the 19th Commonwealth Games. India boasts being the third developing country to host the event of the Commonwealth Games after Jamaica in 1966 and Malaysia in 1998. The New Delhi, 2010 Commonwealth Games will be the second time the event will be held in Asia after the 1998 Commonwealth Games in Malaysia. The 2010 Commonwealth Games will take place from October 3 to October 14, 2010.
In Jamaica in November 2003, the Commonwealth Games Federation voted the location of the 2010 Commonwealth Games in which Delhi received the maximum number of votes that was 46, whereas Ontario, Hamilton, and Canada received only 22. Thus, New Delhi, India, was voted as the venue for the 2010 Commonwealth Games.
The Sports Minister of India will head the apex committee for conduction of the games, while Suresh Kalmadi (president of Indian Olympic Association) will head the Games organizing committee.
The Sports Program of 2010 Commonwealth Games in New Delhi include 17 disciplines in which many new sports are included and many are excluded. For instance, archery is included, whereas triathlon is probably to be excluded. The new sports program of 2010 Commonwealth Games include popular sports events like athletics, tennis, wrestling, cycling, hockey, shooting, gymnastics, rugby 7s, etc. But the game of triathlon is excluded because of venue problem for the swimming phase. Organizers are also thinking of removing the event of basketball and include billiards, archery, snooker, and tennis for the male participants.
The Organizational Structure of 2010 Commonwealth Games, integrated on February 10, 2005, aims in proper organization, preparation, and conduction of the 2010 Commonwealth Games, New Delhi. The organizational structure is headed by Mr. Suresh Kalmadi (Member of Indian Parliament), the chairman. Then there is the vice-president of the committee Mr. Randhir Singh. Dr. Lalit K. Bhanot is the Secretary General of the organizational structure, and Mr. A. K. Mattoo is the treasurer. Mr. Rajiva Srivastava is the committee’s Director General, assisted by additional director generals in the technical, financial, and coordination fields.
The Volunteer Program of 2010 CWG tells about the different volunteer programs conducted for the better running of the event. The Commonwealth Games Federation is the organization that is responsible for the control and direction of the Commonwealth Games. There are presently 71 Commonwealth countries going to participate in the events of 2010 Commonwealth Games.
