Triathlon

The Triathlon sports event comprises cycling, swimming, and running over different distances. As a result, expertise in cycling, swimming, and running alone is not enough for guaranteeing a Triathlon athlete a competitive time. The approved list of sports in Commonwealth Games 2014 has included the sports of triathlon, along with other sports like squash, ten-pin bowling, wrestling, etc. Trained athletes in triathlon have learned to race each stage in a special way so as to preserve their endurance and energy for the following stages.
In almost all events of modern triathlon, the three events are placed consecutively in immediate sequence. A competitor’s official time includes the time that is required for “transition” between the individual stages of the race, including even the time required for changing costumes and shoes
History of Triathlon According to Scott Tinley, triathlon historian and author, the origin of this sport is anecdotally attributed to a French race during the 1920-1930s, called as the “Les trois sports”, “La course des Touche a Tout”, and “La Course des Debrouillards”. Today, this race is held annually in France near Joinville le Pont, Poissy and Meulan.
Rules of Triathlon
There are various rules in triathlon sports, but in each sport each athlete is competing against time for the best time. Given below are the several rules followed in a sports event of triathlon:
  1. No athlete is allowed to receive help from anyone outside or inside the race, except the race-sanctioned aid volunteers.
  2. Triathlons are times in different sections.
  3. The swim time beginning from the start of the swim to the first transition
  4. The T1 time ranges from the start of the first transition to the end of the first transition
  5. The cycling time starts from the beginning of the cycling leg till its end
  6. T2 time starts from the beginning of the second transition till its end
  7. Finally, from the beginning of the run till its end, the triathlon is completed.
  8. Allowable equipments, like wetsuits in swimming, are allowed in the stage of some races.
  9. In cycle leg, the most important rule is that the competitor must be wearing their bike helmet before mounting his bike and must wear it till the completion of the race.
Triathlon and Fitness
The triathlon athletes needs to be extraordinarily fit, and this is the reason why many amateur athletes choose triathlon particularly for its fitness benefits. Because of the endurance required in these three sports of swimming, cycling, and running, all triathlon training involves cardiovascular exercises. Moreover, since triathlon athletes must be trained in three different disciplines, they tend to possess a more balanced entire-body muscular development rather than being a pure cyclist or swimmer.
