The current regulations state that a minimum of a ten and and no more than 15 sports must be included in any Commonwealth Games Schedule. There is a list of core spots which must be in included and a further list of approved sports. It is here that countries can exercise their right to choose a game. The host nation ca n also apply for a sport which they find appealing and they think would make a difference if they were included. In this case they can apply to the CGF General Assembly. A perfect example of this case in the Commonwealth Games organized in the year 2006 . The Melbourne organizing committee actually made an application in order that basketball be included in this major upcoming event.
Thereby, it was in the year 2006 that at the Commonwealth Games held at Manchester that we see the inclusion of basketball. This along with hockey, netball and rugby 7's on the programme.

Amongst the Games Added to Commonwealth Games, a special mention can be made of the fact in the year 2002, the CGF, introduced the David Dixon Lake for the outstanding athlete of the games.
Further it was in the year 2002, that there were some games which were included for disabilities. This was known as the events for Elite Athletes with a Disability. The EAD category of sportsmen were seen participating and competing in a number of competitions which were organized specially for them. The new Games Added to Commonwealth Games, lived up to the Commonwealth ideal of a fair life for every one.
The games for the EAD were athletics, swimming, table tennis as well as power lifting.
Yet another liberal angel was added in the year 2000 in the Commonwealth Games. It gave individuals of the age 18 and even below a platform to compete on.
