Basketball

It was in the 2006 Commonwealth Games that the sport of Basketball was played for the first time and was included in the list of sports held in Commonwealth Games. Basketball was one of the sports that took Commonwealth Games to regional Victoria, along with games being played in numerous regional centers like Bendigo, Geelong, Traralgon, and Ballarat.
In the sport of basketball in 2006 Commonwealth Games, the winner or gold medalist was from Australia, the second place or the silver medal was won by New Zealand, and the third place or bronze medal was won by England.
How to play Basketball The sport of basket ball is a team sport in which there are two teams, each of five active players. Each of the team tries to score points against the opponent by propelling a ball through a 10 feet (3 meters) high hoop, which is known as the goal, under the organized rules of the game. Basketball boasts to be one of the most popular and widely viewed sports in the entire world.
Points in the game of basketball are scored by shooting the ball through the goal or basket from above. The team that has more points at the completion of the game is declared as the winner. A player can advance the ball on the court by bouncing or dribbling or passing it between his teammates. No fouls are permitted and there are certain restrictions on how a player needs to handle the ball.
Techniques in Basketball

Rebounding: This action is practiced to successfully gain possession of the ball after a free throw or missed field goal.
Passing: This action is the commonest one in which one player passes the ball to another player.
Dribbling: This is the technique of bouncing the ball continuously.
Blocking: This is performed when the defender of a team tries to alter the shot of the opponent by touching it.
