Commonwealth Championships

Commonwealth Games refers to a multi- national sports event. It comprises multi- sport events. It is held after every four years. It involves elite athletes all of whom belong to the Commonwealth of Nations. By Commonwealth of Nations we mean a voluntary association. This association comprises 53 independent sovereign states. Most of these were 53 states were formerly British colonies. Commonwealth Championships are held as a part of Commonwealth Games. Commonwealth Championships cover a wide range of sports.
Some of these sports are aquatics, archery, gymnastics, hockey, net ball, weightlifting, wrestling and wrestling to name a few. The term “Championship”, is a term used to refer to a event comprising sports competitions. It is organized to bring out talent to the fore front. It is through this competition that an individual or a team go to prove themselves as champions.
The Commonwealth is an international organization. It is organizations of this nature which engender a sense of brotherhood. For countries with diverse social, political and economic backgrounds co-operate within a framework of common goals and values. Some of these ideals are to do with democracy, human rights, free trade, individual liberty and world peace. These to name a majority of the ideals.
A championship based on a variety of games and called the Commonwealth Games is held after a stretch of every four years. Interestingly the games which feature as a part of the competition are those very games which are popular in the Commonwealth nations.
Some of the Commonwealth Championships held in the past were in the nature of the following. In the year 1994, the 8th Asian Pacific Age Group Swimming and Diving Championships were organized. In the sphere of athletics, the 6th Asian Junior Athletic Championship was held.

It was in the year 2005, that the Commonwealth Powerlifting Championships were held. The inaugural IPF- affiliated Commonwealth Powerlifting Championships were held in the September of 2005. Close to 100 lifters participated in this Championships. They represented 11 nations in all. The nations participating in the inaugurals were Australia, Canada, India, New Zealand, Pakistan, South Wales as well as Scotland amongst many.
The team represented by England comprised both males and females. They carried home the major trophies. Trophies donated by the IPF were awarded to the best male and female lifter on the Wilks formula .
The next set of Commonwealth Championships are scheduled to take place in the year 2010, in the modern city of Delhi in India. Watch out for the exciting range of championships which are going to be played here.
