Delhi, the capital city of India is fortunate enough to get the opportunity to hold the next commonwealth games in the year 2010. India is the third among the developing countries to host the commonwealth games. Jamaica and Malaysia are the other two developing nations that hosted the commonwealth games in 1996 and 1998. However after Malaysia, India is the second Asian nation where this sports events is going to be held.
The capital city is getting prepared for the mega event that will be held in 2010. This is not the first time New Delhi is hosting such an international event. Earlier in 1951 and also in 1984 New Delhi organised Asian Games, the biggest sports event in Asia.
Commonwealth Games which is going to take place from 3rd to 14th October 2010, will have its opening ceremony as well as the closing ceremony in the Jawaharlal Nehru Museum. Aquatics, athletics, archery, badminton, boxing, hockey, gymnastics, cycling, lawn tennis, rugby seven, shooting, netball, squash, table tennis, tennis, wrestling and weightlifting are the major sports that are included in Commonwealth Games.
