The Game was officially declared open by the King of Malaysia, Yang di-Pertuan Agong Tuanka Jaafar Ibni Almarhum Tuanku Abdul Rahman. This was the first time that the logo included the color yellow. In the past the logo reflected the color of the British Nations, White; red and Blue. The mascot of the 1998 Commonwealth Games, Kuala Lumpur was an Orang- utan. The latter was named “Wira” which means the warrior in Malaysian language.
A lot of firsts are connected to the 1998 Commonwealth Games, Kuala Lumpur. Apart from the first time inclusion of an Asian country into the list of Commonwealth Games host nations. This was the first time that the following sports were included into the Commonwealth games.
