2018 Bidders for Commonwealth Games

2018 Bidders for Commonwealth Games have already come out in the limelight. Formidable competition for 2018 Commonwealth Games is already in motion, though the winner of the bid, which would host the 2018 Commonwealth Games would be announced only in 2011.
The Trinidad and Tobago Olympic Committee (TTOC) is one of the conformed 2018 bidders for Commonwealth Games. TTOC President Larry Romany is counting on the government's commitment to get started with building infrastructural facilities of international standards.
The chances of 2018 Commonwealth Games to be held in Port of Spain, capital of Trinidad and Tobago, depends to a large extent on this.
Another name in the significant 2018 bidders for Commonwealth Games is Nigeria. Nigeria would strive to have the 2018 Commonwealth Games held in the capital city of Nigeria, Abuja. After the loss to Glasgow to host the 2014 Commonwealth Games, Nigeria would surely put in extra effort this time around.
The Australian Government has announced Australia as one of the 2018 bidders for Commonwealth Games. With the impressive number of world class stadiums at the disposal of Australia and a recent history of hosting a successful Rugby World Cup, Olympics and Commonwealth Games, Australia is definitely among the strong bidders for Commonwealth Games. Paul Broughton, founder of the Gold Coast ruby league team, Titans, has been quoted saying, “Tomorrow I want to be part of a Gold Coast city tender for the Commonwealth Games. We have already so many great facilities in this city, but for the Games we would commission a new 60,000-seat stadium for Carrara.” The ACT Sports minister has put forward plans to better Canberra's sports infrastructure so as to bid for the Games in 2018
Two New Zealand cities have expressed interest to host 2018 Commonwealth Games, Auckland and Christchurch. Christchuch hosted in 1974, and Auckland in 1950 and 1990.
Durban, South Africa has expressed interest in being one of the 2018 bidders for Commonwealth Games. Cardiff, Wales, is also a potential bidder for 2018 Commonwealth Games. Canada might independently, or in collaboration with USA and Mexico, emerge as one of the 2018 bidders for Commonwealth Games. To achieve this end, significant improvement will be required to be brought about in the infrastructure of these countries. Other potential 2018 bidders for Commonwealth Games are:
  • Adelaide, South Australia, Australia
  • Hobart, Tasmania, Australia
  • Sheffield, England
  • Accra, Ghana
