The logo is inspired by the “chakra” or a wheel with spokes. The “chakra” is considered to be the symbol of freedom, unity and power. It has a sign spiraling upwards. This upward movement presented in the sign is symbolic of India's movement and progress. That from a traditional society to that of a global power. Yet another interesting feature on the logo is that each part of the logo is symbolic of India welcoming the 71 Commonwealth nations and territories.
It was in the year 2003, that the Commonwealth Games Federation on the basis of acquired votes decided on Delhi as the next venue for these games. It was the capital city of India, which went on to enjoy the maximum number of votes. It was in the years 1951 and 1982, that Delhi had previously hosted the Asian Games.
A modern Games Valley is being built by the Delhi Development Authority. This is along the east bank of the river Yamuna. Visitors to the country will get to see certain eminent historical monuments located close by.
