South Africa is participating nation at the 2010 Commonwealth Games, which will be held at New Delhi of India. South Africa made its debut at the Commonwealth Games in the year 1930. However, they did not compete between 1958 and 1990.
South Africa at the Commonwealth Games:
South Africa made its return in the Commonwealth Games of 1994. The country won 11 medals in total, which include 2 gold, 4 silver and 5 bronze. Elana Meyer and Charmaine Weavers won silver medal at the Women’s 1000 meters event and high jump event respectively.
Gwen Griffiths won a bronze medal in the women’s 1500 meters event. In the women’s discus event, Lisette Etzebeth won a bronze medal for South Africa. In the Men’s 800 meters event Hezekiél Sepeng won silver. The nation won gold medals in both men’s and women’s bowls discipline. Lyn Dwyer & Jo Peacock bagged the second position in Women’s Pairs Bowls event.
In the Commonwealth Games of 1998, South Africa won the cricket finals. The team defeated Australia.
South Africa represented at the Commonwealth Games of 2006 with a strong number of sportsmen. The nation won 38 medals in total, which include 12 gold, 13 silver and 13 medals. They won gold in various disciplines such as Men's 400 m Hurdles, Men's Shot put, Men's 50 m Freestyle, Men's 4x100 m Freestyle Relay, Men's 50 m Freestyle, Women's High Jump, Women's Discus, Women's Javelin, Women's 50 m EAD Freestyle, Women's 100 m EAD Freestyle and Welterweight 69 kg.

It won silver medal in disciplines like Men's 200 m Backstroke, Men's 200 m EAD, Men's 100 m Freestyle, Men's Double Trap, Men's 4x100 m Relay, Men's 4x400 m Relay, Men's 100 m EAD, Men's 400 m Hurdles, Men's 160-180 km Road Race, Men's Triple Jump, Women's 100 m, Women's 50 m Rifle 3 Positions and Flyweight 51 kg. The nation won 13 medals in disciplines such as Women's 50 m Butterfly,Women's 75 kg Weightlifting, Women's Lawn Bowls Singles, Women's 200 m, Women's 200 m Breaststroke, Men's 100 m Freestyle, Men's Lawn Bowls Triples, Men's 50 m Backstroke, Men's 25 m Standard Pistol Pairs, Men's 25 m Centre Fire Pistol Pairs, Men's Hammer Throw and Men's 1500 m Freestyle.
