The country of Singapore has been taking part in the Commonwealth Games ever since the year 1950
It was at the Manchester Games in the year 2002 that Singapore, put in its best ever performance. The country went on to win four gold medals for the game of badminton and table tennis. They won these out of a total of 13 medals. In the 2006, Commonwealth Games held at Melbourne, Singapore was represented by a 101-member contingent. This comprised 63 sportsmen as well as 38 officials. Singapore went on to win 18 medals. Out of this, the country was rewarded 5 gold medals. This was for its outstanding performance at the games.
The country won a gold medal for the the sports, table tennis played by the women's team. This is an example of one out of five. It won 6 silver medals. Out of this Cai Xiaoli and Li Jiawei won a medal at Table Tennis, in the Mixed Doubles category.
Since Singapore has been delivering a record breaking performance in the Commonwealth Games in regular succession, we can look forward to them performing in the same way in the forthcoming Commonwealth 2010 Games, New Delhi.
