Pakistan is participating in the 2010 Commonwealth games. Commonwealth Games is a multi sport event where various countries of the world will participate. New Delhi of India plays the host of 2010 Commonwealth Games. Pakistan won its first gold medal in the 2006 Commonwealth Games, which was held in Melbourne of Australia.
Pakistan at the Commonwealth Games:
In the year 1994, Pakistan participated in the Commonwealth Games. It won three bronze medals. Hussain Arshad of Pakistan won bronze medal in the men’s lightweight boxing discipline. Muhammad Bhola of Pakistan managed to win men’s middleweight wrestling competition.
Pakistan was banned to participate in the Commonwealth Games in the year 1999. The country was banned to participate in this mega event after Musharraf’s rebellion. The country pleaded to the officials of the commonwealth games for 5 years for their inclusion in the sports event. Even after its inclusion in the games, the country was again thrown away.
Pakistan represented itself in the 2006 Commonwealth Games in Melbourne of Australia with a team of 75 members. It consists of 53 sportsmen, 21 officials and one head of the group. Pakistan managed to win only 5 medals. The team’s dismal performance at the sports event drew criticism for them. The sportsmen to officials’ ratio were the highest and the newspapers of the nation demanded an explanation regarding that.
The nation claimed its first gold medal in the 2006 Commonwealth Games. Apart from the gold medal, Pakistan also won three silver medals and one bronze medal. Shuja-ud-din Malik won the gold medial in the 85 kg category of weightlifting.

Lassi Mehrullah, who participated in the featherweight 57 kg category of the Boxing discipline, won the silver medal. Another silver medal was own by Irshad Ali. He won Men’s 25m standard pistol in the shooting event. Pakistan also participated in field hockey. They won a silver medal for their nation. The head coach of the team was Asif Bajwa. The team consists of members such as Salman Akbar, Rehan Butt, Muhammad Saqlain, Muhammad Shabbir, Imram Warsi, Adnan Maqsood, Dilawar Hussain, Tariq Aziz and many more.
Muhammad Irfan won the bronze medal for Pakistan in the Men’s 77 kg Weightlifting category.
