India is the only third developing nation in the world which has got the opportunity to host the Commonwealth games in 2010 at Delhi. The previous developing nations were Jamaica in 1966 and Malaysia in 1998. This is only the second time the event is scheduled to be held in Asia. The history of the Commonwealth games dates back to the year 1891. About 400 athletes from eleven countries took part in the first Commonwealth Games.
