Malaysia is one of the Commonwealth nations and has participated in the Commonwealth games which were held in the previous years. It is a participating nation in the forthcoming Commonwealth games which is scheduled to be held in Delhi, 2010.
The Commonwealth games had its beginning in the first half of the 19th century. It was basically initiated in order to promote goodwill among the different regions of the British Empire at that time. Malaysia was represented at the 2006 Commonwealth Games in Melbourne by a 254 member strong contingent that comprised of 170 sportspersons and 84 officials. They won 7 gold, 12 silver and 10 bronze medals. The sports events that they participated covered weightlifting, badminton, lawn bowls, shooting, aquatics, gymnastics and hockey. Since the team has talented sportsmen it is likely that in the forthcoming Commonwealth games, 2010, we will get to see some sparkles from the Malaysian team.
