Commonwealth games was first introduced in the year 1930, when it was known as British Empire Games. Firs venue of this popular sport event was at Hamilton in Ontario, Canada. It was renamed as Commonwealth Games in the year 1954. Along with some popular Olympic sports, there are also a few sports like rugby sevens, lawn bowls and netball, which are practiced in the Commonwealth countries. It takes place after every 4 years, and the next scheduled Commonwealth Games is in the year 2010 which will be held in New Delhi, India.

Jamaica has started participating in Commonwealth Games from the year 1934 and it was continuous in its participation from 1954 to 1982. after a short break, it has again started parti8cipating from the year 1990. in 2006 Commonwealth Games, Jamaica participated in a number of events like Jump, Hardles, Relay, Athletics, Decathlon and shot Put and it managed to win 10 gold medals, 4 silver medals and 8 bronze medals, thus winning a total of 22 medals, in the previous year. Result reveals that both men and women are equally capable of winning the variety of events of this multi sport event. Jamaica has already started to show their bes in the forthcoming Commonwealth games of 2010, which is scheduled to be at New Delhi in India.
