Ghana

The Commonwealth Games is a world class Sports meet. The excitement is in the air after a regular interval of four years each. The recent Commonwealth Games were held at Melbourne, Australia. The venue for the next Commonwealth games is New Delhi, India in the year 2010. The government had ascertained that the players, who are participating in in the Commonwealth Games, would be only selected after reviewing the performance of the players in the Asian Games 2006, Commonwealth Games 2006 and the Olympic Games 2008, as also other important events that would be held just before the Commonwealth Games, 2010.

However, in the Commonwealth 2010 Games, New Delhi, Competing Nations Worldwide about 71 countries have been decided on. Ghana is one of the countries which is going to be participate in these games. For the performance of Ghana at the 2006 Commonwealth Games at Melbourne, deserves a mention.
The Commonwealth Games 2010, are going to be held in the following disciplines. These are Aquatics, Athletics, Badminton, Boxing, Cycling, Gymnastics, Hockey, Lawn Bowls, Net Ball, Shooting, Squash, Rugby 7”s Table Tennis, Weightlifting and Wrestling.
Ghana is a nation in west Africa. It lies on the Gulf of Guinea. The country was formerly known as the Gold Coast. It became a member of the Commonwealth in the year 1957. For the Commonwealth is an organization with members compromising nations, that were formerly colonies of the British government. The mission of the organization to put it briefly, is to promote peace. It holds this premium sports event in order to foster unity amongst the nations.

Ghana has been a regular participant in the Commonwealth Games ever since the year1954. It opted out of the event only in the year 1986, the venue of which was Edinburgh.
Ghana has been displaying a consistently good performance at this premium event. Ironically, it was in the year in which they debuted – 1954. They also participated in the 1982 , but they did not go on to win any medals.
It was in the year 1966 at Jamacia, that Ghana once again proved their worth in a major way. They went on to win their largest number of medals. Five of which being in the category of gold.
